This list takes into account the size, looks and features that are most used and desired by us ladies. Just because we want something that looks good, doesn’t mean we should sacrifice on function so here’s a run down of the best fitness trackers for women in 2017.
Things to Consider Before You Buy a Fitness Tracker
There’s a huge difference in functionality between different brands and models of fitness trackers. If you don’t want to find yourself changing watches for different activities, take a minute to consider what you’ll be using it for. These questions are a great place to start:
- What fitness activities will you be using it for? Are you looking for a basic step counter? Are you solely a runner or do you also cycle, swim, lift-weights or do other activities?
- Do you need GPS? Having built-in GPS means you don’t need to carry your phone with you when you’re running. Connected GPS requires you to take your phone and no GPS means you won’t have as many stats on your performance.
- Do you want to be able to listen to music? Some trackers have room to store music on the watch while others let you control tracks on your phone.
- Do you want a rechargeable battery? How often do you want to recharge it? Are you happy with buying new batteries? Sometimes it’s great not to have to take your watch off and recharge it.
- Looks vs. function? You should also ask yourself if you care more about looks or function. Are you planning on wearing your fitness tracker 24/7? What colours will look good with your fitness, work and casual clothes? Do you want to grab a second band so you can wear it with anything?

Fitbit Charge 2
The Fitbit Charge 2 looks the part AND it’s packed with features!
A 24/7 heart rate monitor and automatic multi-sport tracking make all-day activity tracking effortless. While you’re working out, you can see simplified heart rate zones so you know if you’re pushing at the right level based on your goals. You can also sync the watch with your phone for accurate, real-time running stats.
Fitbit also uses your stats to calculate an age based fitness score that’s based on your VO2 max. This makes it really easy to see how you’re progressing over time.
Fitness isn’t all about working out and the Charge 2 recognizes that with sleep tracking and guided breathing sessions that make it easy to manage your stress.
As for the look of the Fitbit Charge 2, it’s slim profile and great range of available colors make it ideal to wear with any outfit! You can also customize the home-screen, get instant phone alerts and easily change bands to match your mood.
It’s easy to see why the Charge 2 is Fitbit’s best-selling fitness tracker yet.

Garmin Vivosmart HR+
If you’re looking for a slimline fitness tracker with built-in GPS, the Garmin Vivosmart HR+ is a great choice!
Track your distance, floors climbed, heart rate and intensity level all from your wrist. The Move IQ feature means you don’t even need to stop and change modes, the Vivosmart HR+ will automatically sense your activity type. Wear it swimming or go for a run in the rain, it’s all good, it’s waterproof!
It also automatically (and gradually) increases your daily activity goal to help you build a more active lifestyle without even trying. Sync it with the app to compete in fitness challenges and receive smart coaching based on your own performance.
The downside is it’s a little more bulky than the Fitbit and doesn’t sit that well on a very small wrist. If you’re happy with the black strap and want a feature-packed fitness tracker that means you can leave your phone at home, check out the Garmin Vivosmart HR+.

TomTom Spark 3
For a GPS fitness watch with changeable bands and a great display, the TomTom Spark 3 does a decent job of mixing function with style.
Available in small and large, this watch offers built-in GPS, multi-sport tracking and a heart rate monitor for continuous, live stats on the go. Because it’s got a bigger and better screen than the Garmin Vivosmart HR+, you can see maps as you run or hike to explore new routes and find your way home again.
What’s also cool about this watch is it can store up to 500 songs so it’s literally all you need for a great and effective workout.
With goal setting, 5 different heart rate zones, a race mode and interval training functions, the TomTom Spark 3 is the ultimate for the girl who likes to do it all. It’s even waterproof and has a dedicated swimming mode!
The bands are interchangeable but there isn’t a very wide range of colors available. My favorite is the aqua. It’s girly enough to go with most outfits and you don’t need to sacrifice on function.

In my opinion, the Fitbit Blaze is the most stylish fitness tracker out there. With a slimline fit, changeable bands and lots of great colors, there’s a Blaze to suit everyone. The downside is you still need to take your phone to connect with the GPS.
With a heart rate monitor, auto-selecting multi-sport recognition and a large, beautiful screen you get instant feedback while you’re working out so you know when to push harder.
Although it doesn’t store songs like the TomTom Spark 3, you can control your music from the watch face and receive phone notifications.
As with most of the Fitbit’s, you’ve also got automatic sleep tracking and silent alarms for a great all-round fitness watch that you’ll want to wear when you’re not working out.

Withings Activité Pop
If you want a fitness tracker that doesn’t look like one, the Withings Activité Pop is the watch for you.
With a normal watch face, it’s small, light and available in a range of cool colors. It doesn’t give you the instant specs that dedicated fitness trackers do but it does auto-track and sync to your smartphone. Walk, run or take it swimming, it’s even got a regular watch battery so you don’t need to take it off to charge.
Auto-track your sleep and wake up to a silent alarm on a watch that’s designed to complement your active lifestyle.

This gorgeous piece of smart jewellery is really a lifestyle tracker and isn’t ideal for the hard-out fitness enthusiast. I wasn’t going to include it because it doesn’t have a heart rate tracker but in such a busy, stressful world, the Bellabeat Leaf is a great reminder to slow down and look after your well-being.
Designed to be worn 24/7, the Bellabeat Leaf tracks your steps, sleep and periods to help build a picture of your whole health. It helps you to focus on relaxation by cleverly calculating your stress levels and taking you through guided meditation exercises.
The Bellabeat Leaf can be clipped directly onto your clothes or worn as a necklace or bracelet. The amazing range of beautiful designs make it hard to choose just one! Create different looks by accessorizing with delightful boho-style straps.

For a simple, stylish and inexpensive fitness tracker, consider the ever-popular, Fitbit Alba.
Although it lacks a heart rate sensor and GPS, the Fitbit Alba automatically tracks your steps and sleep. Customize the clock face, keep an eye on your daily goals and send notifications directly to your watch. You’ll also be given reminders to move throughout the day and can view all your stats on your phone.
With an excellent choice of gorgeous bands, show off your personality and change it up any time you feel like it.

Samsung Gear Fit2
If you’re an Android user, the Samsung Gear Fit2 is a nice and neat, all-round fitness tracker that’s got a built-in GPS!
Although it’s only available in black, this watch is surprisingly slim and fits a small wrist well. Packed with features including a continuous heart-rate monitor, sleep monitoring and auto-recognition of workout type, it’s easy to keep a track of your whole active life.
The screen is quite impressive! While you’re working out you can see a map, your heart rate, goal, distance, reps and all the other stats you’d expect on a GPS watch. Not only can you receive notifications from your phone too, but you can even respond to calls and texts. Connect to Spotify for access to millions of songs to keep your workouts pumped.
