I love starting my day with a workout. Yes, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but there’s just something about getting it done before the busyness of the day kicks in. And, it’s always a reward to see the sun rise! While I’m a big believer that the best time of the day to workout is definitely any time that you’ll actually get it done, there are lots of benefits to starting the day with a sweat sesh. So, next time the alarm goes off, don’t press snooze! Just get out of bed and enjoy these benefits of exercising in the morning.
1. You’ll Have More Energy
One strange thing about exercise is that it’s actually a source of energy. And, one of the benefits of exercising in the morning is that it’s like an all-natural cup of coffee. Get your workout done first thing and you’ll feel more awake and energized throughout the day.
2. You’ll Always Get It Done
Do unexpected meetings, deadlines or family obligations often sabotage your PM workout? Is exercising the last thing you want to do after a long day at work? If the day normally takes it out of you, working out first thing in the morning means that you’ll always get it done. You won’t just find time to exercise but you can make it a priority.
3. You’re More Likely to Achieve Your Fitness Goals
By making exercise a priority, exercising in the morning means you’re more likely to achieve your goals. No more excuses! Just a consistent routine that translates itself into results.
4. You’ll Feel Less Stressed
Starting your day with a boost of feel good endorphins helps to keep you feeling relaxed for the rest of the day. It can also help to reduce your blood pressure and put you in a better mood so that you find it easier to handle daily stress.
5. You’ll Be More Focused and Productive
One of the great benefits of exercise is that it boosts your brain health! So, working out in the morning might help you to improve your concentration and job performance too. You’ll find it easier to stay focused on the task at hand to achieve more in less time. You might even find you remember things better too.
6. Your Hormones Will Help to Build Muscle
It can be quite hard for both men and women to build muscle. But, in the morning, your testosterone levels are higher which makes it easier for your body to build lean muscle. More lean muscle means a faster metabolism, less body fat and a strong and sexy shape.
7. Morning Workouts Leave Time for Other Priorities
To live a balanced healthy life, it doesn’t have to be ALL about the gym. Working out in the morning means you’ll have more time for the rest of your life. Dedicate 30 minutes or an hour to exercising in the morning and then spend time with your family after work, enjoy a hobby or just spend time relaxing.
But, Don’t Forget to Sleep!
Sleep is just as important for your health as exercise and good nutrition. If doing your workout in the morning means that you’re consistently missing out on your beauty rest, you can’t continue like that! Either you need to go to bed earlier or you’ll have to shift your workout to another time of the day. Even if you miss out on some of these benefits of exercising in the morning, that’s better than being a sleep deprived, stressed out zombie!
